MiniDrivers – 2026 Canada – Race

Montreal delivered one of the most dramatic races of the season, and at the center of the storm stood Kimi Antonelli. The young Italian survived relentless pressure, internal team tension and total race chaos to secure his fourth consecutive victory, continuing a historic run that is rapidly transforming him from rising star into the dominant force of the championship.

The race exploded into life immediately at the start. George Russell launched well from pole position, but Antonelli attacked aggressively into the opening corners, refusing to let his teammate escape. The Mercedes pair once again reignited the tension that had already boiled over during Saturday’s sprint, battling wheel-to-wheel through the opening stint and repeatedly trading the lead in a breathtaking fight that pushed both drivers to the limit.

For nearly thirty laps, neither driver blinked. Antonelli stayed glued to Russell’s gearbox, waiting for even the smallest mistake, while Russell defended aggressively despite increasing pressure from behind. But the entire race changed in an instant when Russell suddenly slowed with a power unit failure while leading. Furious over the radio, the British driver was forced to retire, handing Antonelli control of the race and leaving Mercedes divided between celebration and heartbreak.

Behind the Mercedes drama, Lewis Hamilton produced his strongest performance since joining Ferrari. The seven-time world champion rolled back the years with several aggressive overtakes, eventually finishing second after a late duel with Max Verstappen, who secured his first podium finish of the season in third. Charles Leclerc followed in fourth, while surprise performances from Isack Hadjar and Franco Colapinto added even more unpredictability to an already chaotic afternoon.

McLaren, meanwhile, endured a disastrous day in Canada. Lando Norris retired with gearbox problems after briefly challenging at the front during the opening laps, while Oscar Piastri struggled with penalties and tyre issues before finishing outside the points. Fernando Alonso also failed to see the checkered flag after Aston Martin discovered a bizarre seat-related problem during the race.

As Antonelli crossed the line first once again, the scale of his achievement became impossible to ignore. Four victories in a row at just 19 years old have placed him firmly in the history books, while his growing championship lead now makes him the clear benchmark of the season. Montreal was supposed to be another battle between teammates — instead, it became further proof that Formula racing may already belong to Antonelli.
