Monaco delivered exactly what Monaco always promises: drama, tension and absolute chaos. Yet when the dust finally settled after crashes, penalties and a lengthy red-flag interruption, one name remained at the top. Kimi Antonelli converted pole position into victory on the streets of Monte Carlo, securing his fifth consecutive win and further tightening his grip on the championship.

The Italian started from the front after his sensational qualifying lap on Saturday and immediately gained a huge advantage when Max Verstappen’s race effectively ended before it had even begun. The Red Bull driver suffered a power unit failure on the opening lap and was forced to retire, removing one of Antonelli’s biggest threats almost instantly.
Despite leading much of the race, Antonelli’s afternoon was far from straightforward. The event quickly descended into chaos as multiple incidents triggered safety cars and eventually a red flag. First, Lance Stroll crashed heavily, and later local hero Charles Leclerc hit the barriers at the same section of track after the surface began breaking up. The damage to the circuit forced race control to halt proceedings, creating uncertainty and setting up a tense restart.
When the race resumed, Antonelli faced intense pressure from Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari sensed an opportunity to steal victory and the seven-time world champion stayed within striking distance throughout the final stint. However, the Mercedes driver never lost his composure, managing tyre degradation and repeated restarts with remarkable maturity as he defended the lead around one of the most unforgiving circuits in motorsport.

Behind the leading duo, the fight for the podium remained unresolved until the closing laps. Isack Hadjar ultimately secured third place after a series of penalties reshuffled the order, while Pierre Gasly and George Russell both saw promising results compromised by sanctions. Further back, Sergio Perez scored Cadillac’s first-ever point, adding another storyline to an already extraordinary afternoon.
As the checkered flag finally fell, Antonelli crossed the line to claim another landmark victory. Five wins in a row, pole position and a flawless drive through one of the season’s most chaotic races further cemented his status as the sport’s new benchmark. Monaco is often considered the ultimate test of concentration and precision, and on Sunday the young Italian passed it with flying colours.
