MotoGP – 2026 French GP – Sprint

Le Mans delivered pure chaos on Saturday, but in the middle of the madness, Jorge Martin produced one of the most explosive performances of the season. Starting only eighth on the grid, the Aprilia rider launched himself into contention immediately and stunned the field with a breathtaking opening lap, slicing through the pack and stealing the lead within the first corners. From that moment on, nobody could match his pace.

Martin’s start was the key to victory. While Francesco Bagnaia converted pole position into an early fight at the front, the Spaniard attacked aggressively around the outside through the Dunlop chicane and emerged ahead before the field had even settled down. Once in clean air, he controlled the rhythm perfectly, building a gap of over a second and never giving Ducati a real opportunity to fight back.

Bagnaia eventually secured second place after a tense duel with Marco Bezzecchi, who completed the podium for Aprilia and helped confirm the manufacturer’s growing dominance this season. Pedro Acosta impressed once again with a strong ride to fourth, while home favourite Fabio Quartararo gave the French crowd something to cheer about with a solid fifth-place finish on the Yamaha.

The biggest drama of the afternoon, however, involved Marc Marquez. The reigning world champion never looked comfortable during the race after dropping positions in the early laps, and disaster struck near the end when he suffered a violent high-side crash. The Spaniard was launched from the bike in a frightening accident that immediately raised concerns about his physical condition and his participation for Sunday.

For Martin, the victory was more than just another sprint success. It marked his 18th win in the short-format races and moved him to within striking distance of the championship lead. After a difficult previous campaign, the Spaniard suddenly looks reborn aboard the Aprilia, combining raw aggression with the consistency needed to fight for the title once again.

With momentum now firmly on his side, Martin heads into Sunday as the clear favourite. Le Mans has already delivered drama, crashes and unexpected twists — but after Saturday’s performance, the rest of the grid has been warned: when Martin gets the perfect launch, stopping him becomes almost impossible.
