MotoGP – 2026 Spanish GP – Race

The 2026 MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto delivered a dramatic shift in fortunes from Saturday’s chaos, as Álex Márquez produced a flawless and commanding performance to take victory on home soil. In front of a packed Andalusian crowd, the Gresini Ducati rider controlled the race from start to finish, confirming his special connection with the Jerez circuit.

From the lights out, the spotlight was on the Márquez brothers. Marc Márquez, starting from pole after his Sprint victory, initially took the lead, but Álex quickly showed superior pace. Within the opening laps, he launched a decisive move to take control of the race, setting the tone for what would become a dominant display at the front.

The race took a crucial turn very early on when Marc Márquez crashed out while chasing his brother. The incident, occurring in the fast Turn 11, ended his hopes of completing a perfect weekend and left Álex with a clear track ahead. It was a costly mistake for Marc, who later took responsibility for the fall, and it dramatically reshaped the outcome of the Grand Prix.

With his main rival out, Álex Márquez settled into a relentless rhythm, building and managing a comfortable gap at the front. Behind him, Marco Bezzecchi emerged as his closest challenger, but the Aprilia rider was unable to match Álex’s pace. Fabio Di Giannantonio secured third place, completing an all-Italian-supported podium fight behind the Spaniard.

Further down the order, the race featured several recovery rides and setbacks. Jorge Martín climbed up to fourth after starting lower on the grid, while factory Ducati endured a difficult afternoon, with Francesco Bagnaia forced to retire due to mechanical issues. The attrition and strategic battles in the midfield contrasted sharply with the calm authority displayed at the front.

In the closing laps, Álex Márquez remained untouchable, maintaining a steady advantage and avoiding mistakes to secure a well-deserved victory — his second consecutive win at Jerez. The triumph not only ended Bezzecchi’s winning streak on Sundays but also reasserted Álex as a serious contender in the 2026 championship fight.

Ultimately, this Grand Prix was a story of control and redemption. After the unpredictability of the Sprint, Sunday belonged entirely to Álex Márquez — a rider in complete harmony with his machine and the circuit — delivering a clinical performance that firmly stamped his authority on the Spanish Grand Prix.
