Marco Bezzecchi put in a stellar performance at Misano to win the San Marino GP sprint, claiming his first sprint win of the 2025 season and the first since Assen 2023. He started from pole and managed to hold off pressure after his main rival, Marc Márquez, crashed out while leading.
At the start, Bezzecchi took the holeshot into Turn 1, immediately resisting attempts by the Márquez brothers to close in. Alex Márquez was passed by both Bezzecchi and Marc early on, while Marc began an aggressive charge from his fourth-row grid position. Bezzecchi managed the early laps cleanly, despite a small error that opened a slight window for Marc to challenge.
On lap six, Marc Márquez finally exploited Bezzecchi’s momentary mistake at Turn 4 to take the lead at Turn 6. It looked like he might extend his sprint win streak further, but disaster struck shortly after: Marc crashed out of the lead at Turn 15, ending his run of eight consecutive sprint victories and his 15-race podium streak in sprints.
With Marc out, Bezzecchi retook the lead and kept a calm, controlled pace to the finish. Alex Márquez followed him home in second, doing solid work to stay close. The third podium spot went to Fabio Di Giannantonio who managed to fend off teammate Franco Morbidelli in the closing laps.
Other notable moments: Francesco Bagnaia had a poor weekend start-finish, slipping from eighth on the grid to 13th at the flag. Fabio Quartararo also crashed from fourth in the early laps. Meanwhile, Pedro Acosta rounded out the top five, and riders like Fermin Aldeguer and Luca Marini scored solid sprint points.
