MotoGP – Japanese GP – Qualifying

We’re heading into the asian rounds of the MotoGP championship with the drivers championship closed, but with a great battle for the teams championship still open. The qualifying finished a few moments ago and we know the name of the new poleman in Motegi.

The first round of qualifying was focused on Takaaki Nakagami, who after being confirmed that will continue with LCR next season, he won’t do the final races and will be replaced by Zarco, and it was the last time that we will see him on a bike before his comeback in 2020. The LCR duo were quite fast during the first minutes with Crutchlow on provisional pole and Nakagami in 3rd position, with Pol Espargaró between them, but the Japanese rider wanted to finish on top and improved his time and was on provisional pole. After making some changes in their bikes, riders were again heading into a final lap that was really crazy to all of them. Crutchlow and Rins finished the session on top while the lower part of the grid was completed with Nakagami, Bagnaia, Pol Espargaró, Mika Kallio, Karel Abraham, Jorge Lorenzo, Hafizh Syahrin, Miguel Oliveira, Sylvain Guintoli, Andrea Iannone and Tito Rabat.

Time now for the 2nd round of qualifying and we will see how the Petronas Yamaha will perform in Motegi while the World Champion Marc Marquez will face the remaining races without pression, but this was the only circuit in the calendar where the Spaniard didn’t take the pole. After the first attempt, Marquez was on provisional pole followed by Miller, Quartararo, Petrucci and Viñales. 5 different teams in the first 5 positions, but all of them were improving their times and Rins joined the party in 2nd position, but Quartararo recovered his 2nd position.

After the final changes in their bikes the riders were heading into the track, focused on improving Marquez’s time. No one were able to beat Marquez, but Viñales was getting close to him with a lap that was only 2 tenths slower than Marquez’s time. Last flying lap for everyone and again Viñales was trying to get close to Marquez’s time but he wasn’t able to do it, while Crutchlow was coming in red but he kept the 5th position while Petronas improved and finished the session behind Marquez.

Marc Marquez has now the pole position in every MotoGP track in the calendar and will face the Japanese GP in first position followed by both Petronas Yamaha of Morbidelli and Quartararo. The final grid of Q2 was completed with Viñales, Crutchlow, Miller, Dovizioso, Petrucci, Aleix Espargaró, Rossi, Rins and Mir.

Tomorrow we will face a quite funny race in Motegi. Both Petronas will race against Marquez, but we won’t know if they will be able to beat him. Who will get the victory at Motegi? Stay tuned to know the answer.
