MotoGP – Catalan GP – Qualifying

Summer is getting close to Spain with the second time this season that MotoGP hit the spanish country for the Catalan GP at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The qualifying session has just finished and we’re getting close to the race that will be really exciting tomorrow.

After the changes that MotoGP had to make to the last chicane, using again the F1 track layout instead of the new chicane that they made, all the times at the FP3 were the ones that decided the riders who will go to Q1 and Q2, and the surprise was to see that the Yamaha boys, Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales have to make the first qualifying session, being the favorites for the Q2. Folger and Viñales were on top during the first minutes, but everyone were improving. Folger had more than 7 tenths of advantage with Viñales, and Miller were the only one who was really close to them with Crutchlow and Abratahm closing the top 5. Rossi was on 9th position but improving the time. Zarco who was one of the favorites for the Q2, still hasn’t made his lap, but we were sure that with Rossi, they were going to be on top.  Rossi improved and was now on 5h position. Bradley Smith after his crash on FP4 was not able to race this weekend, and also Crutchlow crashed on the last minute o the session. Rossi was getting really close to his teammate and the fight for the Q2 was really close. Chequered flag, Folger and Viñales will go to Q2 and the grid was completed with Rossi, Zarco, Miller, Baz, Crutchlow, Abraham, Rabat, Pol Espargaró and Sam Lowes. Smith and Guintoli didn’t made make a lap.

Time to get serious, only 2 Yamaha bikes will fight for the pole position with the Ducati and the Honda bikes. Marquez was the first rider to hit the track with the fans cheering to his favorite rider with Viñales going behind him with medium tyre. On their first lap Lorenzo was on provisional pole with Pedrosa, Dovizioso, Marquez andViñales on top 5. Marquez crashed on his second lap at turn 3 but he could return to the track without problems.

After the last changes on their bikes Pedrosa improved and was now on privisional pole with 3 tenths of advantage with Lorenzo. Barbera improved and was now closing the first line of the grid with Folger and Viñales closing the top 5. Aleix also improved and jumped to the 4th position while Marquez reached the third position. Marquez crashed again at the same turn as the start of the session.

Dani Pedrosa took the pole position with Jorge Lorenzo and Danilo Petrucci at the first line of the grid. Marquez, Aleix, Barbera, Dovizioso, Folger, Viñales, Bautista, Redding and Iannone closed the grid at Q2.

Tomorrow we will have a great battle for the victory between Honda, Ducati and Pramac. Everything can happen so stay tuned for the updates.
