Formula E – Buenos Aires ePrix – Qualifying

The FIA Formula E returns to Buenos Aires for this third season and we just enjoyed the qualifying session that finished a few minutes ago. Jose Maria Lopez is racing at his home ePrix and ht tried to bring the best for his fans. Let’s see what happened during the qualifying session.

Group 1 was done with Sam Bird, Maro Engel, Mitch Evans, Robin Frijns and Adam Carroll. Sam Bird was the first man on finishing his preparation lap, and most of the drivers improved his time. We saw a yellow flag on turn 6, but it was retired really fast, after that, Bird made his qualifying lap, a really fast one, but Evans was even faster than the british driver, after that we saw Carroll causing a yellow flag, but he could return to the track finishing the session. The ending of group 1 left us Evans on provisional pole with Bird, Frijns, Carroll and Engel.

Time for group 2 with Nelson Piquet, Jerome d’Ambrosio, Sebastien Buemi, Lucas di Grassi and Jean Eric Vergne. Buemi and Di Grassi had their own battle for the championship, and we saw Buemi, Di Grassi and Piquet taking the first three positions with D’Ambrosio 5th, but Vergne improved the time of everyone taking the provisional pole position. At the end of the session we had Jean Eric Vergne at provisional pole with Sebastien Buemi, Di Grassi, Piquet and Evans.

The third group was done by Stephane Sarrazin, Loic Duval, Felix Rosenqvist, Antonio Felix da Costa and Jose Maria Lopez. The session started really bad for Antonio Felix Da Costa, whose car was stopped after the hairpin during the warm-up lap, but he could start again. Lopez was racing at home so he had to do the best for his fans and show his talent, but at the last sector he hit the wall. Rosenqvist was the only driver who made a good lap, finishing sixth. The other drivers finished at the end of the grid and with a minute to go Lopez caused a red flag, but at least Da Costa is the only driver allowed to make another flying lap again. When Da Costa was trying to make his lap, he hit the wall and broke the suspension, so session is over.

Fourth and final group qualifying session with Nico Prost, Nick Heidfeld, Ma Qinghua, Daniel Abt and Oliver Turvey. On his lap Daniel Abt was the fastest driver on sector one… but he hit the wall on sector two. Ma Qinghua also crashed on the same place as Abt, but he caused a yellow flag after lefting the car there. With that the session was over and the top 5 was Vergne, Buemi, Di Grassi, Turvey and Piquet.

Time for super pole and the first driver on going to the track was the first champion of Formula E, Nelson Piquet. On his lap Piquet made a mistake at the hairpin, but he could manage to continue, before the last chicane he made another mistake and he almost hit the wall, but he could finish the lap making a lap time of 1:11.274. The second super pole driver was his teammate, Oliver Turvey, who had a normal lap, but he lost the control at the last hairpin, like Piquet, but he improved his time making a 1:10.075 lap. Now it’s time for Di Grassi, one of the challengers for the championship, he made a smooth lap finishing first with a lap time of 1:09.404. Now it was Buemi’s time, the championship leader, who was making a really fast lap but he made a couple of mistakes, finishing his lap with a time of 1:09.825 in second position. And now it’s time for the last driver with Jean Eric Vergne, who made a mistake at the hairpin, but he as the fastest man of the track, finishing his lap with a time of 1:09.598, finishing second.
