The final Dutch race at Zandvoort delivered a fitting spectacle, and it was Lando Norris who wrote the final chapter in style. The McLaren driver converted pole position into a commanding victory, mastering mixed conditions, an early red flag and relentless pressure from the Mercedes duo to claim his second consecutive win and keep his championship hopes alive.
The afternoon exploded into drama before the field had even completed a full lap. Home favourite Max Verstappen lost control through the banked final corner on the slippery track, crashing heavily into the barriers and triggering an immediate red flag. The Dutch crowd fell silent as their hero climbed out unharmed, while the race was suspended to repair the damaged barriers and clear the debris.
When the action resumed, Norris made no mistakes. The reigning world champion controlled the restart perfectly, holding off George Russell into Turn One before gradually building a comfortable advantage. Despite the drying circuit creating difficult tyre choices throughout the race, McLaren judged every strategic call to perfection, allowing Norris to remain in complete control from the front.
Behind the leader, Russell mounted a determined challenge but could never get close enough to launch a serious attack. Kimi Antonelli completed the podium after another mature drive, recovering from a difficult qualifying session to secure valuable championship points. Charles Leclerc finished fourth after an aggressive opening stint, while Lewis Hamilton recovered from a slow first stop to complete the top five for Ferrari.
Further back, Oscar Piastri salvaged sixth after struggling to find the pace that had made McLaren so competitive throughout the weekend. Isack Hadjar continued his impressive rookie campaign with another points finish, while Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz endured another frustrating afternoon outside the top ten. The changing grip levels and gusting coastal winds caught out several drivers, making consistency the decisive factor over the race distance.
As the chequered flag fell, Norris celebrated a victory that was about much more than just 25 championship points. Winning the final race ever held at Zandvoort ensured his name will forever be part of the circuit’s history, while McLaren completed a perfect weekend after showing exceptional pace from qualifying through to Sunday’s race. Antonelli remains firmly in control of the championship, but Norris has once again demonstrated that the fight for the title is far from over.
