MotoGP – 2026 German Gp – Sprint

Marc Marquez once again proved why Sachsenring is known as his kingdom. After smashing the lap record to secure pole position earlier in the day, the Ducati rider completed a perfect Saturday by dominating the sprint race from lights to flag. It was another commanding display from the reigning world champion, who never allowed his rivals a genuine opportunity to challenge for victory.

Marquez made a flawless launch from pole and immediately settled into his trademark rhythm around the German circuit. Behind him, his younger brother Alex Marquez remained glued to the rear wheel of the factory Ducati throughout the opening laps, but despite staying within striking distance, he was never quite close enough to attempt a decisive move. Marc controlled the gap with remarkable precision, demonstrating once again why he has become almost unbeatable at Sachsenring.

The Marquez brothers quickly pulled away from the rest of the field, turning the sprint into a family affair at the front. Fabio Di Giannantonio secured third place after another impressive performance, completing an all-Ducati podium and confirming the Italian manufacturer’s dominance throughout the weekend. Behind the podium finishers, Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez completed the top five after another strong showing for Trackhouse Aprilia.

Further back, the championship battle took another intriguing twist. Jorge Martin could manage only sixth place after struggling to find the pace needed to fight with the leaders, while Francesco Bagnaia and Pedro Acosta rounded out the points-paying positions. Marco Bezzecchi, meanwhile, suffered a huge blow before the sprint had even begun after crashing heavily in qualifying and being ruled out of the remainder of the weekend with a broken collarbone.

For Marquez, the victory carried even greater significance than the twelve points awarded. It marked his nineteenth sprint triumph since the format was introduced and his twelfth victory of any kind at Sachsenring, further cementing his legendary record at the German circuit. More importantly, he cut valuable points from Jorge Martin’s championship advantage, keeping the title fight very much alive heading into Sunday’s main race.

As the chequered flag fell, there was never any doubt about who had been the class of the field. Pole position, fastest pace and a lights-to-flag victory completed another textbook Saturday for Marc Marquez. On a circuit where he has built his legend over the years, the Spaniard once again looked untouchable, sending a clear warning to the rest of the grid that he remains the rider everyone must beat this weekend.
