Silverstone once again delivered one of the most thrilling races of the season, and this time it was Charles Leclerc who emerged victorious. The Ferrari driver produced a flawless performance from start to finish, surviving changing strategies, relentless pressure and a dramatic late Safety Car to secure a memorable victory in front of a record British crowd.
Starting from the front row alongside pole-sitter Kimi Antonelli, Leclerc made the perfect getaway as the lights went out. While Antonelli struggled for traction into the opening corners, the Ferrari driver seized the lead and immediately began controlling the pace. Behind them, Lewis Hamilton thrilled the home fans by climbing into the fight for the podium, while George Russell remained firmly in contention after another strong start for Mercedes.
The race developed into a fascinating strategic battle as tyre degradation and changing track conditions forced teams to gamble with their pit-stop timing. Antonelli looked set to challenge Leclerc after the final round of stops, but his race unraveled when a damaged front-left wheel fairing affected the balance of his Mercedes. The championship leader was later handed a time penalty, dropping him well outside the points after what had looked like another potential podium finish.
Behind the leader, George Russell recovered brilliantly to move into second place, benefiting from Hamilton’s five-second penalty for a false start. Despite the setback, Hamilton still delighted the Silverstone crowd by securing third place and completing a double podium for Ferrari and Mercedes. The battle between the two British drivers remained intense throughout the afternoon, with neither willing to give an inch in front of their home supporters.
The final laps brought one last twist. Max Verstappen crashed heavily while trying to defend a podium position, triggering a late Safety Car that neutralised the race and prevented any final attacks on Leclerc. The Monegasque crossed the finish line behind the Safety Car to seal Ferrari’s second victory of the season, while Russell and Hamilton completed the podium after a race packed with incidents and strategic drama.
For Leclerc, the victory was another reminder of Ferrari’s growing strength in 2026. His commanding drive ended Mercedes’ recent dominance and provided a significant boost to the Scuderia’s championship hopes. Although Antonelli still leaves Silverstone as the drivers’ championship leader, Ferrari has firmly re-established itself as a genuine contender, setting the stage for an increasingly intense battle as the season heads into its second half.
