MotoGP – 2025 Japanese GP – Sprint

Francesco Bagnaia returned to form in spectacular fashion, claiming his first sprint win of the 2025 season by leading from start to finish at Motegi. He took pole and converted it into a dominant performance, never looking threatened throughout the 12-lap sprint.

At the start, Bagnaia made a perfect launch and immediately pulled clear of the field. Behind him, Marc Márquez and Joan Mir battled for second, while Pedro Acosta surged past Mir in the early laps to grab a podium position.

Mid-race, Marc Marquez made his move on Mir with a decisive block pass at Turn 10, and then overtook Acosta with three laps to go to solidify second place. Acosta held on to claim the final spot on the podium.  Meanwhile, Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi crashed at Turn 1 in a dramatic opening-lap collision, ending both of their sprints prematurely.

Bagnaia’s margin of victory was 1.842 seconds over Márquez, with Acosta finishing 3.674 seconds behind the winner.  With Alex Márquez ending the sprint in 10th and failing to score, Marc now stands on the cusp of the 2025 title: he needs to outscore Alex by just three points in tomorrow’s main race.
