MOTO GP – Styrian GP – Qualifying

After 5 weeks of waiting, MotoGP is back for the second half of the season, with the 10th round of the calendar taking place on the Red Bull Ring, for another doubleheader weeks at Austria.

The first Qualy session went green, with some notable names, like Alex Rins, Pol Espargaro Miguel Oliveira or Brad Binder as main candidates to advance. With the return of Dani Pedrosa and Cal Crutchlow making a return to the category. Dani as a wilcard of KTM and Crutchlow substituing Franco Morbidelli because of an injury.
First stint saw Alex Rins ahead, with Binder, Pol Espargaro and Alex Marquez as runner ups. Oliveira eventually climb to the front, chased by Alex Rins and Alex Marquez, with Perdrosa getting on the mix. Enea Bastianini did a late charge to the lead after a great attempt on the last minutes, but it was cancelled after abusing on track limits. Alex Marquez and Miguel Oliveira, who took the last 2 spots on Q2

2nd Qualy session was on its way with all 4 Ducatis trying to take the pole from the dominant Yamahas of Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Viñales. The Yamaha of Quartararo was ahead on provisional pole on the first attempts, followed byJorge Martin’s Pramac and Jack Miller’s Ducati. With Bagnaia, Mir and Zarco still on the hunt for front row positions.
At the last attempts, it was Francesco Bagnaia who was looking great on the lap, with a huge last sector on track and as provisional pole, but Jorge Martin did the same but better, as the Spaniard beat the Ducati by less than a tenth. Quartararo did actually get a last pole lap, but it was cancelled after getting off the track at the last sector. Martin gets his second MotoGP pole, with Bagnaia on 2nd and Fabio Quartararo closing the front row.
