MotoGP – Japanese GP – Qualifying

The asian rounds arrived to MotoGP and Motegi will be the first race that we will enjoy at the MotoGP championship. Rain will be the main protagonist this weekend and the wet conditions that we had during the qualifying session gave us a strange grid for tomorrow.

Maverick Viñales had to make the Q1 session after not making good times during the free practice for the rain conditions, but today we has one of the favorites to finish on top, but the wet conditions will make this as a lottery, so whoever could finish on top. Viñales was on top during the first lap, but Pol Espargaró and Cal Crutchlow showed that they wanted to join the party too. The session was going forward without incidents, only Loris Baz ran off the track but could return without problems. Karel Abraham crashed just when the session finished and couldn’t finish his lap. Pol Espargaró and Bradley Smith finished on top and will go to Q2 while the back part of the grid was completed with Baz, Viñales, Crutchlow, Bautista, Barbera, Rabat, Abraham, Aoyama, Lowes, Redding, Nakasuga and Nozane.

Timefor the second round and Rossi was the only rider who went to the track with slick tires while the rest of the riders made it with wet compound. On the first lap it was Marquez who was on top with Petrucci close to him. Rossi, who was trying something different, wasn’t making some good times, being last (with Pol Espargaró who didn’t complete a lap yet) and 15 seconds behind Rossi, while Marquez was 1,5 seconds faster than Petrucci who was 2nd.

After the last changes at boxes, Dovizioso improved his time and overtook Petrucci while Pol Espargaro with his first lap he was 2nd with just 1 second behind Marquez. Surprise with Zarco who improved Marquez’s time and was on provisional pole by 0.5 seconds. Chequered flag and all the riders passed for the finish line for the last time.

Pole position for Johann Zarco who will start the Japanese Grand Prix with Danilo Petrucci and Marc Marquez at the first row. The Q2 grid was completed with Aleix Espargaró, Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Smith, Pol, Dovizioso, Rins, Iannone and Rossi.
