Bahrain is back another year for another great battle for the F1 championship with the Formula 1 qulaifying session at the Sakhir International Circuit. Quite hard to know who will be the favorite for the victory tomorrow, so the first thing is to know who will get the pole position.
The night has come at Sakhir and the cars are ready to make their first laps on Q1. Ferrari and Mercedes, the favorites for the pole position today, made their laps on soft tyres while everyone made their attempt with super soft. Final minute for veryone and Kimi had to make a lap with super soft compound while veryone from 9th to 20th were on track to improve their times. Chequered flag and Lewis Hamilton was the fastest man on Q1 and at the knowckout zone we had Sainz who lost power on his car on the final turn, Vandoorne, Pérez, Ericsson and Magnussen.
Second round of qualifying, and everyone made their lap with super soft compound and was quite interesting that the top 3 drivers were in less than a tenth. Problems for McLaren and Fernando Alonso who couldn’t finish the lap and had to retire without making a time. Final minutes and from the 8th to 14th fought to make a lap. Chequered flag and Lewis Hamilton finished the session as the fastest driver again and at the knockout zone we had Kvyat, Stroll, Wehrlein, Ocon and Alonso.
Final session, and time for the pole position. Mercedes and Ferrari had a close battle during the whole weekend, but the magic button of the silver arrow made them to make a lap 0.4 faster than Ferrari with Hamilton and Bottas on top, followed by the Ferrari boys and the Red Bull ones. After their pitstop change, it was time to make their final lap and improve as much as possible.
Pole position for Valtteri Bottas, being his first pole on his career with Lewis Hamilton 2nd and Sebastian Vettel 3rd. The top 10 was completed with Daniel Ricciardo, Kimi Raikkonen, Max Verstappen, Nico Hulkenberg, Felipe MAssa, Romain Grosjean and Jolyon Palmer.
Tomorrow Valtteri will try to get his 1st Formula 1 victory but he will have a close fight with his teammate and with Ferrari. Let’s see tomorrow what will happen at the night of Sakhir.
