Silverstone welcomed MotoGP back from its summer break in spectacular fashion, and Jorge Martin wasted no time reminding everyone why he leads the championship. The Aprilia rider produced a flawless performance to convert pole position into a commanding sprint victory, leading every lap and spearheading a stunning clean sweep of the podium for the Italian manufacturer. It was Martin’s fourth sprint win of the season and another major statement in the title fight.
Martin laid the foundations for victory earlier in the day by smashing the Silverstone lap record to secure pole position by just 0.021 seconds ahead of Raul Fernandez. When the lights went out, however, there was nothing close about his race pace. He launched perfectly from the front of the grid, immediately taking control and building a comfortable advantage as the chasing pack struggled to keep up with the superior corner speed of the Aprilia.
Behind the leader, Ai Ogura once again underlined his extraordinary rookie campaign with another composed ride to second place. The Japanese rider kept Marco Bezzecchi at bay for much of the race, while the recovering Italian completed an emotional podium after returning from the collarbone injury that had sidelined him just weeks earlier. The result sealed an unforgettable one-two-three finish for Aprilia, a clear demonstration of the manufacturer’s dominance around the Silverstone circuit.
The afternoon proved far more difficult for Ducati. Marc Marquez initially climbed into fourth after an aggressive opening lap despite starting only sixth, but severe rear tyre degradation quickly transformed his race into a struggle for survival. One by one, rivals found a way past the reigning champion, who slipped all the way to ninth by the chequered flag. Fabio Di Giannantonio also faded dramatically after showing promising pace early on, while Alex Marquez salvaged fourth to become Ducati’s highest finisher.
Further back, Raul Fernandez could not convert his front-row start into another podium, while several riders battled intensely through the midfield in one of the closest sprint races of the year. Tyre management became the defining factor over the ten laps, with Aprilia mastering the conditions while Ducati paid the price for excessive wear during the second half of the contest.
As the chequered flag fell, Martin celebrated a perfect Saturday that could have huge consequences for the championship. Pole position, a lights-to-flag sprint victory and an increased lead in the standings made it the ideal return after the summer break. With Aprilia locking out the entire podium and Martin looking completely in control, the Spaniard heads into Sunday’s main race as the clear favourite to complete a dream weekend at Silverstone.
