MotoGP – 2020 Spanish GP – QUALIFYING

More than 7 long months have since the last summary on the last race at Valemcia back in November, long has been the waiting for this day… but its finally here, Moto GP is back. With a maratonic calendar that would have many back to back races, double headers at a 2 week lapse and a wide range of riders ready to kickoff the season with the Spanish GP at the Circuit of Jerez.

First Q1 session goes green, as new faces emerges on the grid as full timers: Iker Leucona, Brad Binder and Alex Marquez. With the presence of the Suzukis of Rins and Iannone, the LCR Honda of Nakagami and Danilo Petrucci at the Ducati, as he would be replaced next year by the Australian Rider, Jack Miller. First stint had the 2 riders of Red Bull KTM ahead, as Pol Espargaro and Rookie Brad Binder were at front of the pack, as Rins, Nakagami and Oliveria were pushing hard of a spot at Q2;  With the Suzuki rider pushing hard at the last 2 minutes, even with a small visit to the ground at turn 2 after the strong lap that place him P1 at the session, with the future Respol rider Pol Espargaro also qualifying at the next session. quite a disappointing start for Danilo Petrucci, as he finishes 14th at the official Ducati.

Second Qualy started as Marc Marquez stats another title defense, with the Yamaha Petronas of Morbidelli and Quartararo, as other strong candidates for pole and Viñales could also be a strong name among riders. As first minutes were passing, both Pramac riders, Bagnaia and Miller were showing a stronger pace compared with the main Ducati team and placing at top row, meanwhile Viñales, Morbidelli and Marc Marquez were showing the hot laps, as they constantly sharing the top spot of the grid.

The second stint intensified the battle for pole, as the three riders were pushing hard on track, breking the barrier of the 1:37´s and getting closer for the track record, much track incidents were showing, as Andrea Dovicioso, Jack Miller and Alex Rins went to the gravel, with the Suzuki rider having a worse incident of all three; it seems he made some damage to his wrist. as the timer went to 00:00, Viñales,Marquez and Morbidelli showed their last attempt to a spot on pole, as Marquez had 3 good sectors, but falied to capitalize at the last sector as he went 3rd, Viñales showing a good 2nd and 3th sectors, but not enough for the pole position and ended 2nd. It was Quartararo who´s lap broke the track record ande gained his 7th MotoGP pole.

A great way to start the 2020 MotoGP season with a grat battle for pole. Can Quartararo capitalize and get his maiden wint at the main category? Or Marquez would defend his crown properly at Jerez?
