We head through the 9th race of the season, the circuit of Sachsenring is the place, and the riders are ready for some MotoGp action before the summer break. Can the championship contenders cut the gap with Marc Marquez?
Q1 showed Dovizioso and Zarco as the favorites to advance to Q2, but Zarco didn´t had the enough pace to find a place for Q2. Dovi pretty much was leading by almost all the session, followed up by Nakagami, Zarco, Smith and Aleix Espargaró but the last rider had a 6-place grid penalty after an incident during Fp3. At the end, Dovizioso maintained the 1st place with Nakagami being the 2nd classified to Q2. The rest of the grid was completed by Zarco, Miller, Pol Espargaró, Syahrin, Rabat, Aleix Espargaró (with the 6-place penalty applied) Redding, Bradl, Luthi, Abraham and Simeon.
On the Q2, session started with 3 spaniards at the front, Viñales on provisional pole, followed up by Lorenzo and Marquez. the stint strategies were very variable on this weekend, having riders choosing to have 3 stints instead of the usual 2 stints. on the second half, the riders started to improve the pace, with lap record timings the battle of pole was intensifying. And when everyone though that Petrucci was taking his first carrer pole, it was Marquez who established the fastest lap by only .025 seconds of Petrucci and .057 seconds of Lorenzo. Second row ended with Viñales, Dovizioso and Rossi. The other places were Crutchlow, Iannone, Bautista (with an accident on last stint), Pedrosa, Rins and Nakagami, with this last one being only .668 seconds behind Pole lap of Marquez. Impressive.
Qualify is done, next up is the race. Can someone give a fight to the championship leader? Can someone cut his 8-race winning streak at Germany? We will find out tomorrow after the race.
