F1 – Azerbaijan GP – Race

The Azerbaijan GP is over and after all the madness that we had during this race we can only think why some people still don’t love the F1. Daniel Ricciardo won in Baku on a race that had everything: safety car, polemics, red flags, penalties…

Lewis Hamilton started on pole position followed by his teammate, but Bottas touched Kimi Raikkonen and both drivers lost positions, specially the one of Mercedes, who had a puncture on his right front tyre and had to make a comeback from the last position. Sebastian Vettel and Sergio Perez followed the British driver from Mercedes. At the back Kvyat ran away of the track on turn 1 and when he came back Sainz tried to avoid him and spun. Kvyat also had problemas with his car, stopping it on the second sector after the castle zone, causing a safety car.

Once the race was restarted, Raikkonen lost position with Massa and Ocon, and also lost a few parts of his Ferrari, causing another safety car. Again at the restart we had drama with Perez losing position against Massa and Ocon, but the number 31 hit Perez, losing the Mexican driver the front wing and causing another safety car. Also Kimi had a rear right tyre puncture and had to retire, and if we want more drama, we had a red flag.

During the red flag period, we saw the replay of Hamilton braking his car and Vettel hit the rear of the Mercedes, but the German driver become mad and hit in purpose to Hamilton to show that he was angry, making the stewards to investigate that movement and making Vettel to receive a 10 second stop and go penalty for dangerous driving, but if you thought that Hamilton would won the race, you were wrong because the British driver had problems with his cockpit and had to pit to repair his car, making Vettel to be in front of him after his penalty, so both drivers had to fight until the end.

After all the madness, we had a strange battle for the victory with Ricciardo in front followed by Massa, Stroll, Ocon, Magnussen, Hulkenberg and Alonso, but the Brazilian driver had problems and was overtaken by everyone and Hulkenberg retired after breaking his front suspension so it was even more strange, but Bottas was coming fast and overtook Alonso, Magnussen and Ocon and started to focus on Stroll, who was overtaking before reaching the finish line.

Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton also started to go really fast on track and overtook Alonso, Magnussen and Ocon but the German driver finished the race ahead of the British.

Daniel Ricciardo won the Azerbaijan GP with Valtteri Bottas 2nd and Lance Stroll on his first ever podium in F1 in third position. The top 10 was completed with Vettel, Hamilton, Ocon, Magnussen, Sainz, Alonso with the first points for McLaren and Wehrlein on 10th position.

The next race will be in two weeks at the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian GP. The championship will be on fire and we’re sure that Lewis won’t let Vettel to finish ahead.
