MotoGP – 2022 Australian GP – Qualifying

Hello MiniFans! After a couple of years, MotoGP is back to the seagull track, Phillip Island, one of the most entertaining tracks of the calendar and today we enjoyed the qualifying session. Wanna know what happened? Then read our report.

During the first qualifying round, so many riders were the favorites to get the first two positions to go to Q2. Joan Mir and Pol Espargaro were the fastest riders during the first minutes, but Enea Bastianini improved the time of both spaniards and took the provisional first position. Zarco, the french rider of Pramac also improved Bastianini’s time and got the first position after the first half of Q1.

Time for the second part of Q1 and both spaniards were again on top, having Joan Mir a small problem after his first attempt, running wide, but the battle won’t be over, because the battle Honda – Ducati was on fire, and for sure Enea and Zarco won’t let them be ahead. Time finished and Zarco was coming to the finish line with red sector with Rins so close to him. Both riders finished on top and took away Pol and Mir, but Enea was making his final lap with a good time finishing 3rd at the end. At the end Zarco and Rins were the fastest riders and will have a chance to fight for the pole position.

We’re getting serious now that we’re at the final qualifying round, and there were too many favorite riders to get the pole, specially the Ducati riders. Marquez had a mistake in his first attempt and couldn’t finish the lap while Bagnaia, Martin and Quartararo were at the front row with their first attempt. Marquez decided to follow Bagnaia’s slipstream, but the italian rider didn’t push too much, while he saw that he was followed by too many riders. Meanwhile both Pramac riders were improving Bagnaia’s time, same happened with Quartararo and Aleix. Martin and Aleix were on the first positions but the battle for the pole was exciting with red helmets everywhere.

Márquez and Bagnaia also improved their times, but it wasn’t enough to beat Martin’s time by less than a tenth. Chequered flag and finally it was Jorge Martin the rider who achieved the pole position, followed by Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia.

Tomorrow’s race will be really exciting with a great battle for the championship between Bagnaia and Fabio, but the eyes will be also on front with Jorge Martin fighting for the victory against Marc Marquez. Who will tame the island tomorrow? We can’t wait to see it!
