Moto GP- DOHA GP- QUalifying

The second round of the 2021 MOTOGP calendar comes as a double header at the Losali International Circuit. As Ducati bikes were looking to take advantage of the top speed on straight lines, meanwhile Yamaha and Suzuki were looking to keep up on the previous sessions before the qualy session started. Although the track conditions have been an issue for every rider on the grid, as strong wind currents and humidity have significally affected the perfomance of the teams on the free practices.

First Qualyfing session saw again the defending champion Joan Mir having to take the long route through Q2, as Alex Marquez, Pol Espargaro, Nakagami, Lecuona, Oliveira and Rossi were some of the notable names that have to show on the hunt for Q2. At the starting minutes, Joan Mir got ahead of the rest on provisional 1st place, alongside the KTMs of Brad Binder and Danilo Petrucci just some tenths behind. Second stint saw Danilo Petrucci, Alex Marquez and Luca Marini getting a provisional spot on Q2 or at least very close to it, but Joan Mir showed strong sectors on the technical part of the circuit and crossed first on the session. Meanwhile the second spot was still contested, at the final attempt, Miguel Oliveira advanced to the next session with a great lap. Valentino Rossi had a nightmare of session as the Italian couldn´t found a good mapping on the bike and finished 21th.

The Battle for pole went green and riders hit the track. At the first attempts it was a Ducati leading ahead of the rest, but an unexpected one, as the Spaniard rookie Jorge Martin was flying on track, followed by Fabio Quartararo, Maverick Viñales and Johan Zarco; With a lot of riders hitting red sectors on track. 2nd stint even more dramatic, as Viñales was on provisional pole with only one attempt from the Pramac riders, with both riders taking the maximun of their bikes, Johann Zarco taking the second spot on the grid and Jorge Martin taking his maiden MOTO GP pole on his 2nd Q1 session. Viñales closed the front row on 3rd, with Jack Miller on 4th and Fabio Quartararo closing the top 5.

The Ducati-Yamaha battle could be a constant topic on the next rounds of the season, as both bikes and riders are showing quality on track. Suzuki looks similat like last year, with complicated Qualys but strong races. Honda has a lot of ground to recover after a quite hard start of their season. A lot could happend though, the season is just starting.
