F1 – Chinese GP – Qualifying

It is already time for the third race of the season. Can Vettel start from his third pole position of 2018 or will it be Hamilton’s? We can be sure that the Britt want it more than ever after his grid penalty of last race. It promised to be an exciting qualifying.
During first session of qualifying, we could see Leclerc going very wide over the kerbstones. He spun and almost crashed into the pitwall, but was able to save his car before it was too late and could continue his qualifying. At first, it was not sure if Ricciardo’s car would be ready on time. His Renault engine blew up during the third practice session. In the end, he had only the time to drive one lap, but managed to go to the second session. That did not apply for Sirotkin, Gasly, Stroll, Leclerc and Ericsson, who finished their session in the knockout zone.
The second session of qualifying did not start too good for Mercedes. Till the last two minutes, they were in fourth and sixth position. Though they could fight back during those last minutes with Hamiton in first position, Bottas in second and Raikkonen in third. Hulkenberg drove an outstanding lap and ended as fifth, while Perez was able to push through to the last session with his last lap. Magnussen, Ocon, Alonso, Vandoorne and Hartley ended their qualifying in this session.
The last session of qualifying was colored red due to the stellar laps of the Ferraris, while we saw Mercedes struggling again on the third and fourth position. Raikkonen even drove two new track records with his best time being 1:31.182. And if that was not enough, Vettel drove phenominal time of 1:31.095 and broke the track record once again.
The first row is red with Vettel on pole position and Raikkonen in second, while the second row is for Mercedes and the third one for Red Bull with Verstappen starting from fifth position and Ricciardo from sixth. The top ten was completed by Hulkenberg, Perez, Sainz and Grosjean.
Ferrari have an advantage in tomorrow’s race. Though Hamilton will do everything to take his first victory of 2018. It will be a close fight tomorrow!
