Formula E – Santiago E-Prix – Race

The next round of the ABB Formula-E championship gave us a heartbreaking race where Techeetah achieved his first 1-2 victory in Formula E.

A crazy start where Jose Maria Lopez and Maro Engel crashed their cars and where Nick Heidfeld had to pit, caused the entrance of the safety car with his new livery. Once the race started, Piquet was trying to catch Vergne during the race while Lotterer was chasing Piquet, overtaking him just before going to boxes. Meanwhile Di Grassi was making a comeback after starting with a 10 position grid-penalty, but the brazilian driver had bad luck again when he had to retire after the pitstop.

During the second part of the race Lotterer had a better pace than his teammate and tried to overtake one time, and another, and another, and even he hit him at the back a couple of times, something that caused that Buemi and Piquet got closer to them. Nelson Piquet tried to overtake Buemi but had a mistake and lost a few positions, but the battle for the victory was even closer, with now 5 drivers in less than 3 seconds fighting for being the first winner at Santiago de Chile.

Jean Eric Vergne took the victory in extremis after a few laps fighting with his teammate, Andre Lotterer, who finished 2nd. The podium had Sebastien Buemi on 3rd position while the top 10 was completed with Rosenqvist, Bird, Piquet, Evans, D’Ambrosio, Da Costa and Prost.

The next round of the championship will be in 4 weeks at Mexico. Will Jean Eric Vergne increase his advantage at the championship or will Rosenqvist take the lead again? The championship is on fire, or maybe we should say, with full energy. Stay tuned for more updates.
