Formula E – Hong Kong EPrix – Race 1

The new season of the FIA Formula E started with a chaotic race in Hong Kong gave us a complete change of what we’ve been watching during the last years in this sport.

Jean Eric Vergne, who made the strangest pole in motorsport history after hitting the barrier and crossing the finish line backwards, kept the first position after the start… during 15 seconds, because we had a red flag that was caused by Andre Lotterer, one of the rookies of the season.

A few minutes later, the race was re-started Rosenqvist spun after being hit by Filippi. The Mahindra driver lost position with Kobayashi, Lynn and Mortara.

Before the pitstop, Sam Bird overtook Jean Eric Vergne. The french driver used that moment to make his pitstop, something that the British driver made on the next lap, but he hit the wall of his box, but it wasn’t a problem to keep the first position. Once the drivers were again at the track, Sam Bird received a drive through penalty… but he still managed to stay in 1st position after that.

On the final laps Maro Engel was attacked by Rosenqvist who hit him. The Mahindra driver after that was overtaken by Piquet, Abt and Rosenqvist.

Sam Bird won the first race of the season with Jean Eric Vergne 2nd and Nick Heidfeld 3rd. The top 10 was completed with Piquet, Abt, Da Costa, Rosenqvist, Mortara, Lynn and Prost.

Tomorrow we will enjoy the second race at Hong Kong of a championship that started really exciting. Stay tuned to know what will happen.
