F1 – Austrian GP – Race
The Austrian GP is over. Valtteri Bottas achieved his 2nd win of the season at the Red Bull Ring while Sebastian Vettel increases his advantage at the championship. The race was really quite with not so many highlights, but let’s talk about what happened during the Austrian Grand Prix.
Valtteri Bottas started on pole position and was followed by Sebastian Vettel. Max Verstappen made a bad start and was overtaken by the Force India and Hamilton. On the first turn Kvyat hit Alonso and the Spaniard hit Verstappen, making both drivers to retire while Kvyat continued on race, but with a drive through penalty. Bottas made a really fast start and was investigated because FIA thought he made a jump start but they saw that he had a reaction of 0.201 at the start, enough for them.
Hamilton had to make is personal comeback and overtook Perez and Grosjean and started to chase Kimi Raikkonen but it was hard to him to overtake the Ferrari driver. The british then tired another strategy with an undercut but Raikkonen didn’t pit because Ferrari knew they lose the position.
The race was continuing without problems with not so many highlights, with Raikkonen complaining about Vandoorne for blue flags, receiving the McLaren driver a drive through penalty, and Carlos Sainz who had to retire with problems with his Toro Rosso.
On the final part of the race Hamilton started to go really fast on the track, chasing Ricciardo, but also Vettel was getting close to Bottas. The podium and the victory was in the air and anything could happen with only 5 laps to go… but nothing happened after an exciting final lap between the first 4 drivers of the grid.
Valtteri Bottas won the Austrian Grand Prix with Sebastian Vettel 2nd and Daniel Ricciardo 3rd. The top 10 was completed with Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen, Romain Grosjean, Sergio Pérez, Esteban Ocon, Felipe Massa and Lance Stroll.
The next round of the championship will be next week at Silverstone for the British GP, Vettel has now 20 points of advantage against Lewis Hamilton who will race at home. The next battle will be on fire so stay tuned for more updates.
