F1 – Barcelona preseason – Day 7

The winter test is heading into the end and things are going to be clear for this new Formula 1 season. Mercedes is still strong but the distance with Ferrari is not as big as we may imagine but McLaren is still with so many problems. Check out what happened at the 7th day of winter test in Barcelona.

Stroll and Ricciardo were the drivers who broke the silence of the track being the first ones to make their installation laps. The times were a bit slower than yesterday but the temperatura was increasing while the day was going ahead. It was the last day for some drivers, so they have to do everything they have before the chequered flag. Vettel broke the time with a 1.19.434, really close to Valtteri’s best time. With just 1h before the end of the morning session, Vettel improved his time, but he made a slow third sector, something that tell us that he still had more tenths on his pocket. Vandoorne caused the first red flag of the session when his car stopped at the exit of the pitlane, probably for a fuel system check. When we had the green flag again Sebastian Vettel made the fastest lap of the session with a 1:19.024 time with ultrasoft tyres, but again they were slow at the last sector. Just with a few minutes for the end of the morning session McLaren caused again a red flag after lefting the car at the exit of turn 10.

Time for the afternoon session, some teams made driver change for the afternoon like Mercedes, Sauber and Williams. The temperatures were increasing again at Barcelona and some teams were going to make qualifying simulations. The third red flag of the day was caused by Kvyat who stopped his car at the exit of turn 5. When the session was re-started, some teams started to make race simulations and at 16:39 Palmer caused the fourth red flag with an engine failure on his Renault. Last minutes of the session and the teams finished without problems their simulations… at least those who could make it.

Sebastian Vettel finished the session being not only the fastest driver of the day, he also made the fastest lap of winter test, but it’s possible to improve that time. Let’s see if tomorrow Raikkonen will improve that time on the last day of winter test, or if McLaren can at least break the 100 laps, instead of breaking their engines. Stay tuned to get the updates of the last day of testing.
