MotoGP – Australian GP – Qualifying

Hello MiniFans!

Double race for this weekend with two tracks, we just saw the Australian MotoGP qualifying a few minutes ago after some problems with the weather, the qualifying was delayed, but we’re ready to give you what happened at Phillip Island. So, let’s start.

The bad weather conditions during the whole weekend caused a different qualifying for today with both Yamaha making the first round of qualifying, something that made us to think who were the favorites for this session. Crutchlow and Viñales were the fastest on their first attempt, but Lorenzo and Rossi made their time being faster than the Suzuki rider, but a bit far from Crutchlow’s time. The british rider could improve a lot on his time, something that Lorenzo couldn’t make, so Valentino Rossi took his place, but the surprise was that Smith also improved and took the second position, taking out both Yamaha from the top positions. Last minutes of the session and Smith crashed, something that also happened with Loris Baz. Chequered flag and Crutchlow and Lorenzo made their the fastest laps at Q1 with Viñales, Smith, Rossi, Laverty, Hernánadez, Bautista, Jones, Baz and Rabat completing the grid on the back part.

Heavy rain was expected for the end of the second qualifying session, so the riders must made their lap as fast as possible. Some riders tried to make their laps on rain tyres, like Marquez and Miller, but they pitted to change the tyre. Bradl and Crutchlow were the fastest riders on their first attempts with Lorenzo last and Marquez still on boxes, waiting for the best moment, but the rain was also coming to the track. All the riders were improving on track and now on top we had Crutchlow and Dovizioso on top, but the italian rider was now overtaken by Miller. Marquez finally went to track with slick tyres and was flying on track, making an awesome lap, but Crutchlow improved almost a second on Marquez’s time. The pole was a mistery with still 6 minutes to go.

The World Champion continued improving his time, even overtaking his rivals on track and made now a lap faster than everyone and being the first rider to make a 31 on track. Every rider now changed their tire into slick and were ready to make a last attempt on Phillip Island, while Marquez was now making a 30.1 on track.

Chequered flag and Marquez took the pole position with Cal Crutchlow 2nd and Pol Espargaró 3rd. The rest of the grid was completed with Aleix, Miller, Petrucci, Hayden, Bradl, Dovizioso, Barbera, Redding and Lorenzo.

Strang result for a great race that we will have tomorrow, I recommend than instead of coffee we must take some popcorn for the race. What do you expect to happen for tomorrow with the Yamaha riders? See you and remember… Be mini-good!
